Revninge Woman Pendant Gold Plated Pewter Norse Pendant

This pendant is a reproduction of one found in Revninge, Denmark in April 2014.
It depicts a viking woman and has been dated to the early 9th century. The dress and decoration of this lady has caused quite a stir, as she appears to be wearing a trefoil brooch at her waist, instead of the more common placement at the throat.

Gilding, or gold plating, was carried out on many jewellery items in the Viking age, using the mercury gilding process. This piece has a 1micron thick layer of gold, plated over pewter, to give an attractive representation of what some of these Viking age pieces may have looked like when they were first made.

She weighs 17g, is cast in lead free pewter in Scotland, then gold plated, and comes with a length of black cord.

Dimensions: 48 mm x 22 mm

Made and handled by Asgard.
